Cover Dish Dinner @ Rock of Ages, 124 Peal Ave, Cheswick, PA
MAP (directions from Tashliksh to Rock of Ages)
Micah 5:19 says, "He will turn again and have compassion on us. He will tread all of our iniquities underfoot. Yes, You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea."
A custom developed among the Jewish people during The Days of Awe (the ten days between Yom Teruah / Feast of Trumpets / Rosh ha Shanah and Yom Kippur / The Day of Atonement) - we would go down to a living body of water (not a pond, but rather the sea or a river) and there take bread crumbs from our pockets and throw them into the water and watch them be taken away from us.
What a wonderful reminder that God has made provision for our wickedness, our sinfulness to be taken away from us.
This a serious time of contemplation of how we are in need of Atonement and how The Scriptures tell how God has provided for redemption - first through the sacrifice of The Day of Atonement, and now through the promised Messiah who, in the words of Isaiah, "Surely, He took upon Himself our griefs and our sorrows (from sin)... - Isaiah 53:4."
From Freeport Rd (Pittsburgh St) turn towards the Allegheny River at Colfax St and drive across the RR tracks and then left into parking lot. WE WILL MEET THERE RAIN OR SHINE (there is a pavilion for cover if needed).
We will be by the River for about 45 minutes. Please remember to dress warm enough to be outside that long.
A COVER DISH DINNER will take place after we finish our time by the Allegheny River. We will drive back to the Rock of Ages building at 124 Pearl Ave, Cheswick, PA 15024, about five minutes away.
You may drop off your covered dish at the Rock of Ages building at 124 Pearl Ave. before the Tashliksh Ceremony ANY TIME BEFORE 5:15. We will do our best to keep dishes warm in oven, or plug in crock pots.
Please bring entree, starch, veggie or dessert. Congregation will provide garden salad and drinks. Please - NO PORK / HAM products (i.e no green beans with bacon) and NO SHELLFISH.
