YOM KIPPUR
YOM KIPPUR - THE DAY OF ATONEMENT

7:30pm - Tuesday,  22 Sept 2015
North Hills Alliance Church
2298 Rochester Rd
Pitstburgh, PA 15237    MAP

At sundown on 22 September 2015, it will be the 10th day of the 7th month
on the Biblical Calendar.  This was perhaps the most serious day on God's Calendar.   ONLY the High Priest could enter the ONLY place God had provided to make atonement (the Holy of Holies).  He could ONLY enter on this one day and ONLY if He had followed God's instructions perfectly making sacrifices for his sins and for the sins of the nation of Israel.

Some have explained ATONEMENT by pulling the word apart - AT - ONE - MENT - making "one" - repairing the relationship after there had been a separation.  Isaiah 59 tells us that our sins have made a separation between us and our God.

God said, in Leviticus 17:11 - "The life of flesh is in the blood.  I have given the blood to you, to put upon the altar (in The Temple) to make atonement for your sins."  Ezekiel the prophet said, "The soul that sins shall surely day."  What an awful separation from The One True God who is the Author of Life.

If the Jewish People believed God enough to do what He said to do (bring certain animals, sacrifice and present the blood to God in the exact way He instructed), God was willing to let the innocent animal die, taking the punishment for sin.  What an act of mercy that the sacrificial animal would take the punishment, INSTEAD OF the punishment falling on the person who disregarded God's Word, His instructions for life  - an act of rebellion against God (and thus - a sin!).

In the year 70 A.D. The Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed, and there was no longer a place to offer the blood sacrifice God requires.  Rabbis began to say, "Well, if we pray, repent and do charitable deeds, God will take these things the same as if we had offered the blood sacrifices His Scriptures require."

"Without the shedding of blood there is no turning back the problem of sin!"

Today, in very religious Jewish circles, there is a ceremony called "Kaparot"
which involves swinging a chicken over the heads of the people present.

The idea is that this is a recognition that there is a need for a blood covering
in order for there to be forgiveness of sins.

The efforts of man to substitute for the provision of God will never be
effective.  God knew the Temple would be destroyed and provided an
amazing provision - His Own Son - The Messiah - to be the blood
sacrifice for our sins.

Sadly, the Jewish people, in large part, do not recognize Yeshua - Jesus as this
Anointed One.  They will flock to synagogue on this night and the next day in an attempt to make peace with their Creator.  But, not believing Him, not honoring His Way for forgiveness of sins, their cries for forgiveness will not be accepted by Him.

At 7pm we will gather at the Rock of Ages building to intercede for both Jewish people, and the the many Gentiles who have not believed God and have not received His Provision - Yeshua - Jesus as their Saviour and Lord.

Isaiah 53:12 tells us the Messiah made intercession for those who broke God's commands.   We who claim to be His followers, should we not follow His example.

Rav Shaul (the Apostle Paul) sets an example saying "My hearts desire and prayer for Israel is that they might be saved."

Join us 7pm, Sept 25 for a time of intercession, joining our hearts with Yeshua's who said, "I have come for the lost sheep of the House of Israel."
